A pilgrimage of 3000 Miles in 300 Days over 3 Summers

‘A pilgrimage is a devotional practice consisting of a prolonged journey, often undertaken on foot or on horseback, toward a specific destination of significance.  It is an inherently transient experience, removing the participant from his or her home environment and identity.  The means or motivations in undertaking a pilgrimage might vary, but the act, however performed, blends the physical and the spiritual into a unified experience.’

This is how the National Trust defines a Pilgrimage.  It explains well what we are aiming to do.  In our case we will be travelling by sailing yacht and our journey will be around the coast of the British Isles!

We are are Jamie and Jo. We love Jesus, love sailing and love praying! In the Island Pilgrimage these all come together!

As well as praying during the sailing, we will be visiting cities, towns and villages around England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland to meet up with people and pray for their areas.  We also hope to visit major historical sites of Christianity, many of which are located on the coastline.  We want to be led where the Holy Spirit leads us (as well as where the wind blows!).

On our travels we will also be supporting The Morning Star Trust. MST is a UK Sailing Charity with a mission to change young people’s lives through youth work at sea! You can learn more about this wonderful charity here http://www.mst.org.uk

We plan to embark on the Island Pilgrimage over 3 summers, travelling between May and September onboard our 34 foot sailing yacht SEA FEVER II.  Our journey will take us clockwise around the British Isles:  in 2025 from the River Dart to the Clyde; in 2026 from the Clyde to the Moray Firth;  and in 2027 from the Moray Firth to the River Dart to complete the circumnavigation.
